What is deep sleep? How do we identify if we have a good quality sleep or not? How can I improve the quality of my sleep?

Here are some ways to know if your sleep is deep or not-

● You wake up without the alarm, feeling fresh and happy. You do not experience sleep inertia.
● Your sleep is deep enough not to realize that the air conditioner or cooler hasn’t been working the entire night and you only find out through your neighbors in the morning that there had been a power cut.

Importance of deep sleep-

❖ Deep sleep is as important as physical exercise and a proper healthy diet. It is our body’s basic need. Losing just one or two hours of sleep per night can have the same impact on motor and cognitive functions as going without sleep for a full day or two. Ongoing sleep deprivation can also cause severe, long-term health conditions like heart disease and heart failure, weak immune system, high blood pressure, kidney disease, depression, diabetes, obesity, etc
❖ Just like petrol/diesel is to vehicles, sleep is to living beings. The body gets Vital Power through the night's sleep, through which your body works during the day.
❖ While sleeping, old cells in the body are destroyed (catabolism) and new cells are created (anabolism) and elimination takes place quickly. Hence, deep sleep is also an effective anti-aging pill!

Here are some tips & guidelines to improve the quality of your sleep.

● Take your dinner early, at least two hours before going to bed. Also, eat something light for dinner, preferably a salad or soup.
●Avoid taking naps or spending a prolonged period in bed throughout the day to actually feel physical exhaustion at bedtime.
● Avoid spending too much time in front of the computer, television, or phone screen or reading in a moving car. It exhausts our eye’s energy. When your eyes feel tired after working tirelessly during the day, give them rest by touching or palming them with cold water.
When we have a deep sleep we don't need an alarm in the morning to get up on time. We naturally feel fresh after a deep sleep as our body is recharged during the night.
