If I have a gastric/acidity problem, can I fast?
Acidity happens when we keep eating throughout the day, and our stomach keeps digesting 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It never gets a chance to rest. As a result, it loses it's natural ability and starts releasing acids (digestive juices) even when it's not supposed to, that is, even when there is no food inside the stomach. Hence, the acids hit the stomach lining and it causes pain.
Fasting will be extremely beneficial for any person suffering from acidity. It might be difficult in the beginning and the stomach might ache. But after 3-4 days, stomach will regain it's natural functioning. On the 4th day, you will not feel pain, even while doing a 16 hour fast. If you never give your stomach a rest, acidity will never be reversed. If 16-hour fasting seems too much, don't worry, start with 14, and then stretch, as your stomach gets better.
